The living room in this Lewisville home is open to the second floor, with tall windows flanking a stone fireplace and a row of transom windows above the dining area. The upstairs game room, with a treadmill under a single window, was the other room on the list. Two rooms, two different lighting problems.
Downstairs the sun comes in high and stays there for most of the afternoon, so the tall windows needed a fabric with enough body to take the glare off the room without making it feel closed. Alexandria in taupe does that. It is a warm mid-tone that agrees with the stone and the wood floors, and as a zebra shade it can be set to let the view through while the solid bands catch the direct light.
The game room needed something lighter, both in color and in effect. It is a room where you want the daylight while you exercise but not the sun in your eyes. Sjoux, a lighter neutral, went on that window.
Ten shades in total, measured on site and installed in a single visit in January 2026. The living room kept its height and its view, and the game room got the one shade it needed.
