A temple hall has one job: to hold a lot of people quietly and keep their attention on the altar at the far end. This Richardson hall does that with rows of cushioned benches on a wood floor and a ceiling full of red lanterns. The windows along the side wall were the problem. They run the length of the room, and depending on the hour they either washed out the altar or put the sun in the eyes of everyone facing it.
Commercial and community spaces need a different answer from a house. There is no one owner adjusting shades room by room. There is a building manager and a schedule, and whatever goes up has to work the same way on every window and stay out of the way of the room’s purpose. Roller shades do that better than anything else. They mount flat, they line up as a set, and they read as part of the wall while the lanterns stay the decoration.
We measured every opening on site and fitted more than fifty shades in the Richardson fabric, a plain light-filtering weave in a neutral tone that matches the walls. Lowered, they soften the daylight to an even level across the hall so the altar is the brightest point in the room. Raised, the windows are clear again for cleaning and ventilation.
The installation was completed over two visits in February 2026, with a second, smaller group of windows added after the main hall. Large rooms like this one are a regular part of our work alongside homes: same measuring, same made-to-fit shades, at a scale where consistency across fifty windows is what matters.
