This Dallas house has traditional trim, French doors leading out of the master bedroom, and a bay window with three separate openings. The owner wanted something that looked tailored, and the crisp, flat look of a roller or zebra shade was not it. That is the case for Roman shades.
A Roman shade is a flat panel of fabric that draws up into soft horizontal folds. Down, it covers the window like a fabric panel. Raised, it stacks neatly at the top and reads as upholstery more than hardware. On the French doors we mounted one shade per door, sized so the folds clear the handles and the doors still swing freely. On the bay window each of the three openings got its own shade so they can be set independently.
The fabric is Clara in beige, a warm, lightly textured neutral that filters the daylight and sits close to the trim color, so the shades feel like part of the room. Ten shades in total, each measured on site and made to its opening, installed in one visit in February 2026.
The doors and the bay were the two spots in the house where a standard treatment would have looked like an afterthought. With the Roman shades they are now the two places the room looks most finished.
