A new home in Justin with bare windows throughout, and an owner who wanted the daytime rooms to stay light while the master bedroom could shut the morning out completely. Those are two different jobs, and we treated them that way.

For the guest room and the living area we used zebra shades. Their alternating sheer and solid bands let you tune the light by rolling the shade a few inches. The guest room got Independence in ivory and the family room got Lebanon in ivory, both warm neutrals that sit close to the wall color. Rolled to the open position they let the view and the daylight through. Rolled closed they give privacy without turning the room grey.

The master bedroom is where the house gets its early sun, so the three windows there received Krugerville blackout roller shades in a deep grey. We cut them to the exact width of each opening so the three shades line up as a set, and with them down the room is dark enough to sleep past sunrise.

Eight windows in total, three of them motorized, measured and installed in one visit in February 2026. The zebra shades handle the rooms people live in during the day, and the blackout rollers handle the one room where darkness matters most.
